Other Ministries

Men’s & Women’s Ministries Our Women’s Enrichment Ministries and the Men of FAITH offer various ministry opportunities, Bible studies, and special get-togethers for fellowship throughout the year. Ladies events include: various Bible studies during the year, the “Daughters of the King” Banquet in May, and a Ladies Conference in the fall, and an annual lunch for widows. The WEM also coordinate the Operation Christmas Child Shoe Box gifts project in October, as well as the delivery of cooked turkey breasts and boxes of food to those in need in our community at Thanksgiving. At Christmas, we buy gifts for needy children in our community through the “Angel Tree” project. The Men of FAITH meet at the church every Tuesday morning for breakfast, prayer, and Bible study. Their annual events include: a big game dinner, an overnight camping trip, a white water rafting trip, & the Men’s Wildfire Conference, in Lynchburg, VA. Our Music Program Hillcrest is blessed with a wonderful music program. The adult choir (led by Pastor Clyde Murray), as well as individuals and groups within the choir, sing at the morning and evening worship services and also have special performances during the year. (The choir practices on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m., following the evening Bible study and prayer meeting.) We also have a choir for the children (age 4 - grade 5), who meet on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. (except in summer). They provide special music for our worship services at various times during the year, and do two musical dramas each year. Our Youth Choir, "Reach-N-Out," practices at 4:00 pm on Sunday (except in summer). In addition to providing special at church services and activities, they also minister at other organizations in our community. Mission Trips Our church (adults and youth) is actively involved in missions, both in the United States and abroad. Our first mission trip was to the Ivory Coast, in West Africa, in 1990. Since then, we have been to Costa Rica (in 1992), Carmel, IN (in 1994); Thomasville, GA (in 1995). The next few years included trips to Uganda, Africa; Honduras, Brazil,and Mexico; Richmond, VA; New York; Huntersville, WV; the Gulf Coast, Mississippi, Tennessee, Germany, Pennsylvania, Spain, and Peru. Due to her mission trips to Uganda, our pastor’s wife has formed a bond with Rev. Godfrey Wanamitsa, president of Arise Africa, and we continue to support him and his ministry. We have also developed a continuing relationship with New Life Children’s Home in Peru. In 2010, mission trips included a family trip to Big Stone Gap, VA; youth trips to North Dakota and Pennsylvania; and adult trips to Peru & Romania. Deaf Ministry We have a video-instructed Sunday School class for the deaf at 9:45 am, and signing for the deaf is provided during our Morning & Evening Worship Services, at 10:55 am & 6:00 pm, respectively. If you are in need of a church that provides these services for the deaf, we encourage you to please join us for Bible study and worship. Our Friendship Club Our seniors (age 55 and older) have regular get-togethers for fun and fellowship: sometimes having lunch and a program at the church; and take bus trips during the year, going to nearby restaurants and other events and activities, including a trip to Dollywood in the fall.
