OUR CHURCH MISSION STATEMENT Striving to please God, we will passionately: Delight in His presence, Demonstrate His compassion, Declare His message, Disciple His people, and Develop His family. From the Pastor... ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ “SIMPLE CHURCH!” ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Does that sound like an oxymoron to you? When I saw a book with this title, that is exactly what I thought, but curiosity got the best of me and I bought it. Well, church is far from being “simple.” It is very complex. It is often difficult for people to keep up with their church calendar. The book challenges church leadership to give their congregation CLEAR direction as to where their church is headed, and that means it has to be “simple.” As a result of reading this book, praying and seeking counsel from our leadership, we have given some clarity to the steps to follow in carrying out the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19, 20. The STEPS to follow AFTER you become a Christian: WORSHIP – To teach Christians how to Worship Christ WALK – To teach Christians how to Walk like Christ WORK – To teach Christians how to Work with Christ WITNESS – To teach Christians how to Witness for Christ Wow, is that simple or what? EASY to remember! EASY to communicate! This is the “WHAT” of our vision. Later, we will talk about “HOW” we can carry it out. Keep Praying. “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go...” (Ps. 32:8) See You Sunday, Pastor Morgan
From the Youth Pastor... May is here and it’s hard to believe our students will soon be completing another year of school. Please pray for our students to finish strong as they take their year-end exams, and for them to end this year spiritually strong as they boldly stand for Christ. On Wednesday nights, our Aftershock students are currently in an 8-week study titled “The Covering,” focusing on Ephesians 6: 10-17 and learning how to put on the full armor of God. During these 8 weeks, our students will become intimately acquainted with each piece of armor and its effectiveness in their lives! Students are engaged in a war against an invisible enemy, and it is our desire to equip them with the tools to overcome these forces of evil! Parents, please encourage your youth to come on Wednesday nights for worship, fun games, and Bible study! The month of May begins our push towards summer for our mission trips and Centrifuge Camp. We encourage everyone to participate in our two important fundraisers in May. The first one is our annual Yard/Bake Sale, Breakfast & Hot Dog Lunch on Saturday, May 5. It’s not too late for you to bring any items for donation including baked goods. On Saturday, May 26, our last fundraiser before summer is our Car Wash at the Auto Zone on Commonwealth Blvd., which begins around 8:30 am. Donations will be accepted and appreciated. Thank you again for all you do for our youth. It never goes unnoticed! That All May Know, Roger Jones From the Hispanic Pastor... Greetings from Iglesia Bautista Hillcrest, First of all, we are praising God for the donation of our new bus from Cave Spring Baptist Church in Roanoke! Their church had voted to support our mission church with transportation. This was desperately needed in order to transport all the kids to AWANA on Wednesday. It will also provide transportation when the Hillcrest bus is unavailable on Sunday morning. We will need drivers to help us on Wednesday night when AWANA resumes in the fall, and hope to offer a class at Hillcrest for anyone who wants to get their CDL license. If you already have a CDL and would like to help in this ministry, please let me know. You will be blessed! On Saturday, May 19, we will be blessed to have the Word of Life missionary from Puerto Rico speak in our church during a special Spring Fellowship. He will bring a word of encouragement to the church and participate with us in fellowship, food, and fun. Please pray for the people who will be ministered to during this event. As we finish up the first year of homework help to the kids at Rich Acres Elementary, I extend my thanks to everyone who helped make a difference in the lives of these children. As their grades and reading levels improved and their vocabularies increased, we have built valuable relationships with these kids and their families. We could not have done this without the support of Hillcrest. Some tutoring will continue throughout the summer. If you would like to help with the summer reading program, please let Cathy Harville know and she will get you on the schedule. Finally, thank you for your prayers and encouragement during my recent illness. God has truly blessed me in this life and this ministry. Dios te bendiga, Pastor Tim | |
